Who writes our guides

Articles are written and edited by the Insurance Directory Listing Editorial Team. The guides explain how insurance works in plain language so you can ask a local agency better questions. They are general information, not advice on your own policy.

Where the facts come from

We work from primary sources wherever they exist: state insurance department rules and consumer guides, insurer policy documents, and published research from industry bodies. When a figure comes from a survey or study, the article says whose it is.

How articles are checked

Before an article is published, an editor checks its figures and rules against those sources. Claims we cannot confirm are rewritten or removed. Insurance rules differ by state, so articles say when something applies only in some states.

Updates

Prices, rules and coverage options change. We review articles when the rules behind them change, and the date at the top of each article shows when it was last updated.

Corrections

If you spot a mistake, email [email protected] with the article link and what needs fixing. We check every report and correct confirmed errors.

Your own policy

Your policy wording decides what you are covered for. For advice on your situation, talk to an insurance agent. You can find an insurance agency near you.
